| Tomich
is the ideal location, peaceful and relaxing, yet not too far from
many places of special interest. Local worthwhile
visits include a trip to Plodda Falls, 3 miles west from
Tomich village, spectacular falls set in a beautiful forest where
the magnificient Douglas Fir and Caledonian Pine are considered
to be among the highest quality in Britain, selected stems are
sometimes felled for ship masts, for example, the masts of Scotts's
restored 'Discovery' at Dundee came from this forest.
The Glen Affric Forest Reserve is claimed to
be the most beautiful Glen in Scotland, a fantastic example of
Caledonian Pine Forest where wildlife such as Red Deer, Pine Martins,
Eagles, Badgers, Foxes, Red Squirrels and some of the rarest beetles
can also be found. Other places of interest include the ancient
Corrimony Burial Chamber (2,000 B.C) and the nearby RSPB Bird
Reserve also in Corrimony.
Further afield, Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle
are only 20 minutes drive, Fort Augustus and the Great Caledonian
Canal are 40 minutes drive, the romantic Island of Skye just under
2 hours. The many sandy beaches of the north east coast are within
easy reach.
