| Situated
on the edge of the beautiful Glen Affric National Nature Reserve,
the Tomich Hotel can be found in the pretty conservation village
of Tomich.
The Tomich Hotel is only 45 minutes drive from Inverness, the
capital of the Highlands, and 20 minutes drive from Drumnadrochit.
This traditional stone built hotel was the Victorian Hunting Lodge
for Lord Tweedmouth’s Guisachan estate in the latter half
of the 1800’s. The estate was very much self contained;
kennels, brewery, bakery, mill house, school house etc, many of
the building still stand today, although they are now in private
use.
The area is steeped in history from this era. For example, the
‘Golden Retriever’ dog was first bred on the Guisachan
estate in the 1860’s. There were also many famous visitors,
George V and Queen Mary, Gladstone and Winston Churchill, who
was reputed to have learned how to drive on the estate.
With its position as the closest hotel to Glen Affric The Tomich
Hotel is a paradise for walkers, cyclists, fishers, birdwatchers,
photographers or those who just want to get away from it all.
Mountain bike hire can be arranged locally as can pony trekking
in the dramatic wilderness of Glen Affric.
